Most Studious: Coming Soon!

Most Studious: A Collection of Personal Essays

For more than four hundred years, the personal essay has been one of the richest and most vibrant of all literary forms.

Distinguished from the detached, formal essay by its friendly, conversational tone, its loose structure and its drive towards candor and self-disclosure, the personal essay seizes on the minutiae of daily life-vanities, fashions, foibles, oddballs, seasonal rituals, love and disappointment, the pleasures of solitude, reading, taking a walk - - to offer insight into the human condition and the great social and political issues of the day.

"Most Studious" is a celebration of this genre: the personal essay...

Wishing For A Good Book

According to Wiipedia: "Personal (or organizational) wish lists compile an itemization of goods or services they desire. The list's author will then distribute copies of this list to family, friends, and other stakeholders who are likely to purchase gifts for the would-be recipient. The goal of a wish list is to facilitate communication between the gift receiver and the gift giver. Wish lists often contain items that a gift purchaser can obtain from a variety of retailers. Some wish lists are specialized for particular purposes or concentrated at individual retailers, such as gift registries (e.g.,bridal registries)."

Occasions for Wish Lists

In some cultures, people often exchange wish lists before major holidays that include gift giving, such as Christmas. Other common occasions for issuing wish lists include baby showers, birthdays, housewarmings, weddings, and charity drives.

Types of Wish Lists

  • A gift registry is a type of wish list that contains only items that can be purchased at the store which manages the registry.
  • An online wish list is a type of wish list that is hosted on the Internet.
  • A product wish list is similar to a list of functional requirements. The difference is mainly the importance of the requested functionality. Items that might be on the wish list at one time may be expected to be requirements later.
  • A software user wishlist is a type of wish list that is created by the software manufacturer (such as the software development company or the website owner) or by user groups.

Online wish list

An online wish list typically allows a registered user to create a wish list, add wishes to it and then spread a link to the wish list via email or social media like Facebook and twitter. Visitors to the published wish list can in most cases comment wishes and reserve them. This adds a collaborative perspective among the viewers that would be much harder to achieve for analog wish lists.

Writing 34 Books is Easy: Marketing 34 Books is Easy: The Joys of Self-Publishing

Writing 34 Books Is Easy

Marketing 34 Books is Easy

Writing 34 books is the easy part. I've written 34 books, all inspired in part or in whole by my blogging. Blogging is reflecting for me, a way to improve my teaching and learning. Thus, my writing is experience based, which provides me with a rich source of material from which to write.

Writing thirty-four books was thus basically a process of reflection. However, informing potential readers, self-marketing, which many writers find challenging, is just as easy.

Social media is the immediate first step I turn to after writing a book and self-publishing on Amazon, both paperback and Kindle. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn are all connected to my personal blog. One click and I post instantly to all three social media sites.

Further, Amazon provides an Author Page for its writers. It goes without saying that I have taken advantage of this marketing avenue. It is quite user friendly. In no time at all you have your photo, an author bio, and your book info uploaded.

You could go to Facebook and duplicate your effort, making a Facebook Author page that directly links to your Amazon Author page. It's also user friendly. A few clicks and you have a few photos uploaded, and your links are connected to Amazon where your books are located at.

What else can you do? With a limited effort, you can upload a book trailer to YouTube. You simply film yourself talking about your book, or alternatively, use music combined with photos to advertise your book. Here is an example of the YouTube book trailer / video I made for my first book, "Celestial Games": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwBYtgDoTH0

So, there you have it. Writing 34 books is easy. Marketing 34 books is easy. Oh, by the way: Would you click this link and like my Amazon Author Page on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/AmazonAuthorPageThomasJeromeBaker

Celestial Games: The First Pot of Gold (#Song: Time Never Stops) Musical #Book #Trailer

YouTube Book Trailer:

ON SALE NOW!

This book trailer, music slideshow is unique: it breaks all the rules, recreating the genre of book trailers.

Celestial Games: The First Pot of Gold is a personal story. It's true fiction, contradicting itself every step of the way. A father and son weave their stories of family, of fortune and misfortune, of loss, of destruction, of death and rebirth of a planet and of mankind, recreating the creation myth in a mystical prologue to the coming novel, Celestial Games: The Philosophers Stone.

** The Storyteller tells the tale of Aquarians and Leprechauns, of the first pot of gold, of football and of goals, of birth and of rebirth.

Once upon a time, on a cloud far, far away, overlooking the Earth (I think it was Cloud Number Nine if memory serves me well) there lived incredible beings.

They were celestial beings, who, in accordance with their name and purpose, which we shall discuss in detail later, overlooked the joy and happiness of the inhabitants of the Earth.

As long as these celestial beings were there, happiness and joy reigned upon the Earth...

Meet T. Jerome Baker, Author of, "Celestial Games: The First Gold"

Thomas Baker is, by his own account, a globetrotter. He's traveled to Europe, Africa, the Antarctic, and North America. He's visited 40 of the 50 states in the USA. The Luxora, Arkansas native currently lives at the end of the world, in Santiago de Chile, South America. He's been here for the past 11 years, he says.

What made him finally stay in one place? Why didn't he keep moving? The answer, he says, is his wife, Gabriela. When he met her, he was home. In fact, wherever she is, is where he will be. Soon it will be Valentine's day again, but with Thomas and Gaby, maybe every day is Valentine's Day...

What does he do in free time?

When not writing, he enjoys spending time with his lovely wife, Gaby, and of course, indulging in his passion, teaching English as a Foreign Language. Being a teacher gives him so much pleasure that he knows he would do it for nothing because it is so personally rewarding. He considers himself lucky to be able to teach English and get paid for doing something he loves so much.

He fits in time for organizing conferences for teachers, such as the recent Edcamp Santiago 2012. He was also one of the conference organizers for the 2010 IATEFL-TESOL Bicentennial Conference, which was held at Universidad San Sebastian.

In 2010, Thomas was the President of TESOL Chile. TESOL stands for Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages. It is a professional organization of teachers of English dedicated to raising the standard of English teaching in Chile.

Also, he manages to write a very successful blog, "A Bit of Everything". Often, he confesses, he will be working on multiple projects simultaneously.

Where does he get the time and the energy?

Priorities, perseverancia, and passion, he answers. The P-P-P approach to individual success in reaching your goals. He explains:

"There's always time to do the things we feel are important. Once you begin to do something, you only arrive at your goals by taking a constant series of small steps. When all this becomes repetitive, your enthusiasm, which is transformed into passion for what you are doing, drives you forwards, especially when things aren't going well.
Does he read books?

His mother, Annette, and brother, Charlie, instilled in him a love of reading at an early age. He could read by the time he was four years old.

After pushing his dreams of becoming a published author aside for thirty years, he has finally jumped in with both feet. In the past six years, he has published several major articles in ELT journals before turning his attention to his creative storytelling abilities.

All of his previous story writing was for free, as he wanted his students and fellow teachers to have access to his early work. After seeing thousands of readers reading his stories, it finally dawned on him that he had the talent necessary to be a published author.

He is currently working on his first novel, Celestial Games. The foundation for the novel is put in place with his recent short story, Celestial Games: The First Gold. In that short story, which serves as the backdrop for the upcoming novel, he creates the world in which Celestial Games takes place, the rebirth and repopulation of Earth.

The two main protagonists are a wise old Storyteller and his young son, who is also destined to be a Storyteller. Through their eyes we see the events of Celestial Games take form.

Celestial Games: The First Gold, is available now through Createspace. It comes out on February 16 on Amazon.
